Phase 1 of the archive entails the inventory
database. This
database was designed to track the location of archival materials pertaining
to the early projects in Chaco Canyon. The inventory database currently contains
comprehensive information about the Neil Judd and Frank Roberts collections at
the Smithsonian Institution’s National Anthropological Archives. It also
contains partial inventories from the following seven institutions:
Though
the inventories for these seven institutions are
not complete, we have gathered a tremendous amount
of information about material relevant to the five
sites that are the focus of our work (Pueblo Bonito.
Bc 50, Bc 51, Bc 53, and Aztec Ruins) as well as
many others within the canyon.
Before using the inventory
database, we suggest you to review the design
schema as
this document will give you a better sense of how
the database tables are related, the precise definition
of particular fields, and the range of information
available.
Within the inventory database there
are four primary sets of data available: objects,
accessions, storage units, and sites. For
most researchers, the Objects and Sites links
will probably be the most useful. For each
data set there are two options for how to view
the data. You can either browse all
the records by going to the “list” option
or you can search the records for particular
words by using the “find” option. Under
the “Find Objects” link, for example,
you could enter the word “Shepard” into
the “CDI Description” field and retrieve
a list of all the object entries that cite Anna
Shepard in their descriptions. Click image below
