CRA Sub-Material Types

The table below provides a full list of CRA sub-material types found in the Artifact table.  The sub-material types are grouped hierarchically under their appropriate CRA Material type(s) heading.  These normalized sub-material types were created by CRA analysts in order to help researchers locate the artifacts of interest.  For instance, it was previously the case that similar artifacts would be variably classified according to the original excavators terminology.  Bear bones, for instance, might be classified either with the common name or with the genus and species names.  To find all bear specimens required users 1) to know what all those permutations might be and 2) do as many searchers as necessary to filter out those specimens of interest.  The CRA sub-material type field is a normalized field so all such permutations should now be listed under a single heading.
