The Chaco Digital Initiative has collected over 7,000 images with the assistance and cooperation of many institutions. These images cover a period of over 50 years,
from the first known photographs of the canyon by Victor Mindeleff in the winter of 1887 to the University of New Mexico field school excavations in the 1930s and 1940s.
The bulk of the images document either the Hyde Exploring Expedition in the late 19th and early 20th centuries under the supervision of George Pepper and Richard Wetherill or
the cooperative National Geographic-Smithsonian excavations in the 1920s headed by Neil Judd.
The image gallery can now be searched by site (22 small and great houses), collection, and keywords.
