* Indicates site or component with Spanish-American or Anglo occupation.

1The ceramic date for each feature is based on the date assigned in the ceramic database(Appendix 4.1), unless otherwise noted. Features with only one or two sherds were not assigned a date.

2The overall component date takes into account all dating information (historic ceramics, tree-ring dates, name and date inscriptions, and informant information) and is derived from Appendix 6.1, Table 2. In a few instances, as noted, an alternative or slightly different date interpretation is possible.

329Mc 484. The unidentified historic pueblo sherds may be associated with a series of checkdams.

429Mc 499. The single Dinetah sherd is part of a general scatter and is not directly associated with the storage room.

529SJ 1612. Although the field crew decided that the lithic materials composing Lithic Scatters 1, 2, and 3 were probably Navajo, this cannot be determined with certainty. The general site scatter also included some Anasazi sherds.

629SJ 2554. The general site scatter associated with the hearth contains both Anasazi and Navajo pottery.

729SJ 2578. The ceramic data base does not give a date for the historic ceramics, but the site form suggests a date of 1875-1925 for the historic pottery. This may also date the associated Navajo petroglyphs. Spanish-American sheepherder name and date inscriptions of 1929 and 1942 indicate a slightly later non-Navajo component.

829SJ 2584. The end date of 1900 is from the site form and disagrees with the very late end date of 1950 in the ceramic data base. Gleichman (see Appendix 6.1, Table 2) presents the 1950 end date, but ignores it in assigning the 1825-1875 time range for the site.

929SJ 2597. The Hearth 1 and Pot Drop 1 ceramics appear to have been inadvertently left out of an earlier version of this table used by Gleichman (see Appendix 6.1, Table 2) to make component date assignments. Because the Dinetah Gray from these features probably gives a more accurate date of the site’s use, a range of 1700-1850 is assigned in contrast to the 1800-1900 date based on the Hogan 1 unidentified plain ware.

1029SJ 2602. There are no Navajo or historic features at the site. The field crew ceramicist suggested a 19th-20th century date for the historic Puebloan sherds.

1129SJ 2606. Historic pottery shown as “general site scatter” is from Roomblocks 1 and 2 and Unknown Structures 1-3, all Anasazi features. Lithics associated with this site are not shown because of the mixing of prehistoric and historic materials.

1229SJ 2892. Gleichman (Appendix 6.1, Table 2) assigned a date of 1600-1750 based on the site form, but there is no clear basis for a pre-1700 date.

1329SJ 3004. The ceramic database does not give a date for the Dinetah Gray sherds, so a date of 1700-1850 has been assigned (see Table 4.10). Because an earlier version of this table did not include a date, Gleichman’s Appendix 6.1, Table 2 shows the site as undated.

aOf these 17 undated sites, seven have ceramics only, six lithics only, and four have both.
